Rolling Hills
The worst of the hills are now behind me until the Rockys, so bring on the Prairie - just praying for tailwinds!
Today has been very hot, about 35, but it is less humid as I go west in Missouri.
Last night I paid for a campsite (a first) and the facilities were awful. The free cyclist stuff along the way has been much better! Tonight I am camping in front of the town hall in a small town, and dinning (and washing) in Subway! I am actually a Subway virgin, so a first. A little fact, Subway now have more restaurants worldwide than anyone else (including McD). Thank God they are in this small town!
My Grandma and Grandpa suggested a use a whistle for chasing dogs - which are really bad on the USA. I have brought my Acne Thunderer (a world famous whistle for those not clued up), and except for leaving me deaf for about 5 mins, it seemed to work!
At the other end of the spectrum, I stopped at a dog rescue centre on the side of the road, and got to make friends with a number of puppies!
Have not met any cyclists today, but yesterday I had a drink with Scott, who had come from San Francisco, and owned a bike shop, so we did some adjustments to my back wheel. Cheers Scott!
So, about to tuck into a footlong Subway! Pic to follow!

Missouri
I have uploaded some photos, so please see below.
I crossed into Missouri this morning over a great bridge, and it was definitely the best state crossing so far! I actually got a bit of vertigo as I went over and the Mississippi is massive!
The town I stayed in last night had a lot of Popeye memorabilia, and after a bit of research, I have found out that the creator of Popeye (E.C. Segar) was born there.
I did under 50 miles today, so an easy one, and I have landed in Farmington. I am staying in a Trans Am hostel which was set up in memory of a keen cyclist called Al. It is beautiful and definitely the most comfortable accommodation I have had so far. Laundry, computer, kitchen, beds, A/C - it is like a swanky apartment! There is a bike shop next door, so I went in to do a bit of servicing.
The countryside at the moment is very pleasant, a little bit like England, with rolling hills and lots of agriculture. I met 3 cyclist going the other way - one was an American, the other was a father with his 9 year old daughter both on a recumbent tandem (photo below). What an experience at 9 years old!!! Puts my achievements into perspective!
Tomorrow I will enter the Ozarks, which I have heard are beautiful, but tough. The last week has provided some quite strong headwinds, so hopefully the wind gods will blow the other way from now on (particularly as I hit Kansas)!
p.s. I must mention that I know there are a lot of spelling/grammar mistakes in this blog, but when you have been on the road all day, I often feel too tired to go through and check, and mistakes can be easily made!
