Today was extremely tough as there was a very strong cross wind, which was slightly towards me as I rode. It is not fun at all! I am now in Tribune and spending my last night in Kansas! I crossed into the mountain timezone earlier today, and tomorrow I cannot believe I will have ridden my bike to Colorado! Apparently the Rockies will appear in the next couple of days and initially look like dark clouds in the distance. This is the part of the trip I have been looking forward to most, and everyone coming the other way tells me how amazing it is in the West.
I am still with the charity group, but we will go our seperate ways on Independence Day in a couple of days. There are some interesting characters in the group and I will be sad to say goodbye to some of them. It has been nice to have company through Kansas and this has helped enrich my experiences on this adventure. For example, a guy called Robert taught me the basics of slack lining (Google if you do not know) which is great fun.
Yesterday, three of us had to cycle 30 miles in under 2 hours to make it to watch the Euro final. Factor in a crosswind, the heat and my loaded bike, and it was quite something. We took it in turns to slipstream and managed to average 16 miles per hour - making it in time. Well done Spain by the way! I am, however, feeling it now, and the riding today has been a bit of a chore to say the least. I also got my first puncture.
Anyway, I am going to keep this short, because there is a swimming pool I am dying to jump into!
