The Colombia Gorge

Last night I indulged a little and booked into a motel.  I felt so guilty about spending the money, but it was nice, and I stayed up all night watching the Olympics.  The coverage here is terrible, though, and only focuses on the Americans.  So all I saw was USA v Austria women's volleyball, two American gymnasts doing very badly and loads of stuff about Phelps and Lochte.

Today was not a great start and your prayers were not working - there was a very strong wind.  My heart particularly dropped when I entered the Colombia Gorge and the wind speed increased.  I had the Frenchman's words in my head and was getting depressed that the whole 200+ miles to Portland were going to be draining.  This afternoon, however, someone very holy has been praying for me, as the winds have dropped!  I am therefore going to push on from Umatilla, which was my intending stop, to push on.  Plus, this place is a bit odd!

The Gorge is pretty impressive and I took time to visit the McNary dam.  I am now in Oregon, so there will be no more new states while in the USA!  I am also seeing signs for Portland, which is pretty cool.  There was a sign for Vancouver, but that is Vancouver in Washington state - a city just next to Portland!

I am a little hesitant to continue, though, as I have to cross a huge bridge that seems to have a tiny side rail - I have a weird fear of heights for those that do not know!  Going to have to build up some speed and get over quickly!
