I have found a nice little internet cafe in Damascus, Virginia, to give a short update on the blog.
Yesterday I did my longest day so far, over 70 miles. It was very tough though, and I was really flagging at the end. I just had to get to a campsite that I had set as my target.
It was very hot yesterday, and the route was not particularly special, with a lot of it parallel to an interstate and on a main road. The scenery is still beautiful and very rural. I keep on being amazed by some of the towns I come into and how some people live! It is actually quite scary!
There were a lot of 'yard sales' going on yesterday, but it all looked like junk to me.
Last night the campsite was amazing. It was in some woods and I was welcomed by Glen and Carol, the campsite hosts, who coincidentally were from Salisbury, South Carolina!
They were incredibly kind and invited me for breakfast this morning - sausages and buns - which was a real luxury. I have been warned, however, about all the dangerous creepy crawlies - black widows, rattlers, and others - which meant I slept with one eye open last night!
Anyway, tonight I plan to camp in the grounds of a church. The pastor said there was food in the pantry, and that they were praying for me to get there safe! About 30 miles away.
Tomorrow I should cross into Kentucky, which is my first state crossing!
King George,
